If I could pass on any advice to students that are just graduating high school, it would have to be this. Spend some time enjoying your life when you graduate. You don’t have to rush off to school, but at the same time, while you are out there enjoying life, you need to start making plans for your future.
This is one mistake that I made. I thought I knew what I wanted to do, but I did not put any sort of research into my thoughts. I just went for it. I chose to get some information assurance training. This seemed like a great idea at the time, and it was. I don’t regret this decision because I have learned a lot within this industry, but there is one thing that I have learned that means the most to me. I have learned that there are other career choices out there that may have been even better.
I decided that it was time for a change. I wanted a different career, but I was smart about it. I knew that I would be able to use my current degree and knowledge to get a job in a completely different area of work. I loved computers, and I loved data. That is why I took this job in the first place, but I also loved crime and law. I decided to pursue a criminology degree.
I was already working full time so I would have to attend an online class. This would grant me the largest amount of freedom when it came to attending class. There were not any colleges that would rearrange their teaching schedules around mine. That is why an online class was so important to me. I could continue to work full time and go to school at the same time. I would just be burning the candle at both ends for a little while, but it would mean that I could have a better future.
I was amazed at the amount of information that I found about online schools. I was also amazed that there were several criminology masters programs available. Now it was just a matter of choosing which school I wanted to attend.
The point of all this is pretty simple and straight forward. Make sure that you research your career choices thoroughly before you make a commitment. It will help you have a better understanding of what you can expect from each career path later in life.
